Hunger
For this project, we picked one out of many world problems and made a solution for it. My group chose hunger/starvation. Many people in the world do not have enough food to stay healthy and therefore, become malnourished. Malnutrition is extremely unhealthy and can become deadly. For our solution, we designed a factory that made nutrition packed bars for hungry people.
Our Project
Our solution was designing a factory that gave out nutrition bars to hungry people around the world. To get started, we chose to start in Ethiopia. We chose Ethiopia because it was a country with a large number of hungry people, but it was not over the top. It was right in the middle. We started out by thinking of making a greenhouse dome sort of thing, but after a little bit, we realized it would not work. We went on to think about creating a pill or gummy that was full of vitamins, but then we realized that people actually need food, not just the nutrients in them. Our final solution was the nutrition bar. We made a few different samples of the bar, and we all picked our favorite. We then chose one, and fixed it up a little to make it taste good, as well as being very nutritious. The rest of our information is in the slideshow. Feel free to check it out to see our factory design, the bar's nutrition facts, the bar's ingredients, and even the directions on how to make them! They are very nutritious and taste very good! Feel free to make them at your house!
Reflection
This project was very interesting. Not only did I learn about something that I didn't know that much about, I was able to come up with an idea to try to solve it with the help of my team. Learning about hunger and what it does to people was shocking and very sad. It made me want to create a solution because i wanted to, not just because we were required to for this project. I really enjoyed my group. We got along and we worked well together. Jessica took a nice approach to the leadership role by making the bars and designing most of the factory. Kendal, Caitlin, and I weren't really the leaders of the group, but we were still very productive. We did lots of research and made the presentation. Some ups about this project were that we finished the project, and that we had a very good idea that isn't impossible. It is possible for our idea to be a reality. It might take a little bit, but in the near future, this could work. A down about this project was that we had to change our idea pretty far into the project. We had the greenhouse idea pretty thought through, but after the "critical friends," we realized that it would not work because Ethiopia does not get a lot of water, so a greenhouse would be very difficult to grow vegetables without a stable amount of water. I thought I was very productive this project. However, I thought I could have been more than a leader. I felt like I was being told what to do instead of telling people what to do. I would like to improve on being more of a leader. I really enjoyed this project, and I am looking forward to the next one.
